LCPS School Year Starts Later, Ends Earlier

Anonymous
Loudoun County schools start Thursday the 21st and get out almost a full week before FCPS? This doesn't make any sense. We are getting out SO late this year. What is the rationale behind this?

21ST IS 3 DAYS LATER.

I believe they have 179 days and not 180.

Well we all hate the lcps calendar too. I assume you have the same problem that we do- too many random days off in the middle of the school year. And still no nice breaks other than Christmas and Easter.

Arlington starts a full week later than FCPS (Aug. 25) and gets out the day after FCPS. The FCPS calendar is a train wreck.

Richmond area schools start later and get out earlier too. Can’t blame the calendar on the state as clearly other districts have figured out how not to have a super long year. It’s all the holidays. It didn’t need to be this way but too many people just blindly accept whatever the school board does, because they aren’t Republican and we have to always do the opposite of whatever Republicans would do regardless of whether it make sense or not.

Or some of us with older kids LIKE that there are days off throughout the school year to allow our kids to sleep in and breathe a little. I’m a fan of year round school so it’s okay with me if the kids have less time to forget everything they learned.

I too am a fan of year round school, but with structured breaks not a day off here and there disrupting everything. I think there are only 3 or 4 full weeks in the entire first quarter.

Is that for farm work?

Only 3! But one of those is actually the PSAT week so some kids will be home that day! Making it actually only two full 5 day weeks. One of which is the first week of school. lol.

Yes by all means let’s change the calendar from how it was done for years because your kids are older now 🙄

One think LCPS has going for it is late HS start times.

Easy to see why- take 1st quarter this year has, what, only 4 or is it only 3) full weeks of school and rest are <5 days/week. It’s also then no surprise no one wants to work 5 days a week!
