Walk around providence and the campus and get a feel for the Brown students. They are a different and distinct vibe than other ivies we toured(all but cornell and Dartmouth). It either fits or it doesn’t.

Campus is fun to walk around and down the hill is RISD where they have a great art museum. Federal Hill (Little Italy), Fox Point/Wickenden Street. Bonus if you’re there for one of their WaterFire festivals, check schedule, big deal for Providence and extra fun when Brown sponsors.

The campus should be very lively, don’t listen to the people that say it’s all hippies and alternative, it so isn’t remotely that way. The student body at top schools are largely the same these days, Brown students have diverse interests and a lot of passion for what they love. Enjoy your visit.

If you aren't traveling there by train or aren't from an area where rail travel is standard I'd recommend checking out the main station. It is close to campus and your student will inevitably take the train for travel so just good to see how convenient it is.

Thanks for most of these replies!!

The ones that were unhelpful were:
- telling me to Google it
- telling me where my kid should ED2 to

Providence is a great walking city with different neighborhoods. Walk along the Providence River downtown, Walk through Federal Hill, walk to Wayland Square on tbe other side of Brown, stroll Wickenden Street. Thayer Street is the main drag of student life—stop and have a coffee.

Newport is a short drive and is worth checking out if you haven’t been there. I’m biased because I went there but I believe Brown is a perfectly located school!
