In the past, I was been a part of a vibrant neighborhood book club that I started with a friend.
Then I moved. In my new neighborhood, I was invited and joined a book club nearby. It devolved into a social club where no one really read the books and just chatted over wine. Eventually the group died off. After some time had passed, I started another book club, but had trouble finding people who really read and wanted to discuss. That also died off eventually. It’s been years now and I want desperately to be in a book centered book club. I’ve looked on NextDoor, Meetup, and bookclubs.com to find an in person group but I’ve had no luck. I’m wondering if anyone else has suggestions for how else I might find a book club? |
I want a real book club too but it's hard to find one that meets my needs and where there isn't one person who takes over ![]() |
Maybe join one at a bookstore or library and if you hit it off with some people you can splinter off. |
My friend runs one that new people find through Bookclubs.com. Maybe just keep trying? |
I live in another state, but my library has a few book groups. |
Check book stores, including the independent book stores, near you.
Also check alumni groups that might have a book club off shoot. Think college or grad school, sorority/fraternity. Church if you belong. I’ve seen postings on neighborhood listservs. Do you want to join strictly to talk about books? If so, look into virtual meetings. |
Stop looking for something that doesn’t exit and start one yourself |
Public libraries. Some of them are great. |
I do too, OP. I’m starting to look at local bookstore and library options. |
