After bath we normally leave my daughter naked for 15 minutes or so so she has time to get completely dry before we put her diaper on. Usually she sits on my lap in a towel while we read books and play but the past few bath times she has run away and hid in the corner to pee on the floor. Is this a sign of readiness for potty training?
Other things that might be relevant: She pretty reliably poops twice per day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon after coming home from daycare, she can tell us when she poops (I'll ask her when she's making her poop face and she'll point and her butt and say poopoo), she seems to like pooping in a clean diaper because she almost always poops right after we change her morning diaper, and she HATES having her diaper change and has since about 10 months but it has gotten quite a bit worse recently. She's also generally pretty independent. I hadn't even started to look into potty training because I wasn't going to think about it until after she was two because I've seen a lot of things about not starting too early. I'm actually dreading it because things are going smoothly right now. I haven't talked to daycare about how it would work. But I don't want to miss signs of readiness if that's what they are. Any advice? |
She's telling you that she has to poop, so yes, put her on toilet for those poops. Don't clean more poop diapers than necessary imo.
You can always figure out if your daughter's ready for more after she gets used to pooping on the toilet. There's no need to overthink rn. |
Talk to daycare first. Ours does it as part of the 2s/3s preschool class curriculum, so they have built in “potty times.” With the toddlers it’s easier for them to do diapers. You want to be aligned with whatever is going on at school. |
Yeah it can be done. With potty training early, just remember they will need more help balancing on the toilet, pulling pants up and down, etc. So there is no rush either. |
My nanny potty trained our 20-month old b/c she had a horrible yeast diaper rash and wouldn't wear a diaper. It was summer and she did the outside PT thing. It worked. I was amazed. I think it only took about 2 weeks. Maybe 10 days. It was very fast. |
Yes, we did early pt because my son got eczema from most diaper brands. It went fine. |
Simple thing- if you want naked time post bath, have it while sitting on the toilet. Around that age, maybe younger, my kid would sit naked in potty while I filled our tub and got in habit of nightly pee and eventually poop and then would ask to go other times of day. At 26 months we did a full weekend thing but then weren't consistent- she still has accidents at almost 3 years and I wish we waited until bm she was older. She's much better now |
She doesn’t need naked time, yes put her on the potty every hour. |
