Secondhand clothes for toddler boys — fun, colorful

Anonymous
Maybe my two-year-old doesn’t care (yet) but I’m personally very bored with shopping for toddler “boy” clothes. You all know what I mean. Blue and gray. Trucks and dinosaurs. So on. While the “girl” selections just seem more creative, colorful, and fun as well as offering more options in general.

The brands I do see offering more variety from to time, including places like Boden, tiny cotton, young days, are on the pricier side and I can’t justify spending that much to stock up a toddler and daycare wardrobe right now.

Long way of saying, are there stores locally knowing for carrying secondhand and more affordable pieces from brands like these? I get too lost browsing poshmark and haven’t landed on go-to sellers to follow. Looking for something more local that I could visit in person.

Tea Collection has fun and colorful clothes for boys. There is a BST group on FB but I mostly see girls clothes there. Tea has periodic sales and clearances that are pretty good and I stock up then.

I learned about the British brand Next on this site, their kids clothing is affordable and I think they have colors and patterns that are more fun.

Boden runs some awesome sales and I stalk Poshmaek as well. I find their clothing lasts a long time and washes/wears exceptionally well, so secondhand works nicely.

Look for Bobo Choses and Tiny Cottons on Poshmark. Or checkout a Smallable sale.

I agree that current boy fashion trends are super meh. I buy everything on ThredUp. There’s a huge variety, so if you don’t mind scrolling awhile (I find their search function basically useless) you can always find more fun and colorful stuff.

And if I’m feeling spendy I buy from Primary but that’s rare.

Check girls clothes because things like leggings and shorts are cut very unisex, but come in many more colors for girls. Even colors like red and green you don’t think of as “female.”

For my son I buy Hanna on sale only , Primary on sale only, occasionally Boden, and he wears hand me downs from his sister as well. I get old navy t shirts, but their shorts and pants are all blah colors.

My other advice for young boys is buy colorful accessories like hats, socks and shoes that will add fun to an otherwise boring palette.

I find little boy clothes terrible for the most part. It is all either sports stuff or business casual attire. I do not buy anything grey, brown, or khaki. It’s possible but it takes effort.

Primary is great. It's all unisex

Yeah, I know several people who have had really good luck there. People also like Bellies and Babies in Del Ray.

All these brands have Facebook groups where people purge their collections and you can buy secondhand.

Vertbaudet and jojomamanbebe. I used to shop there when I lived in the uk, and I am pretty sure you can ship to the U.S. They are French kids’ companies, but not like Jacadi/bonpoint, more like the Gymboree/carter’s of France.
