What do you do for Thanksgiving Day breakfast and apps

Anonymous
We usually have dinner around 5 p.m., but I’m open to having it earlier in the day.

We always have overnight guests, and I’m wondering what DCUM folks think of this plan:

Breakfast (whenever you wake up):
Hard boiled eggs
Muffins
Fruit salad
Yogurt/granola

Generally available: Charcuterie board

Appetizers (maybe at noon or 1 p.m. if we eat the dinner at 3? Or at 2 p.m. if we eat at 5?)
Spinach/artichoke dip with vegetables and with crackers/baguette for dipping
Stuffed mushrooms
Something frozen from Trader Joe’s that looks appealing

Then dinner at either 3 or 5, a very traditional spread; desserts likely about an hour after the end of dinner (we typically do some clean-up first)

That sounds basically fine except I hate hard boiled eggs that have been insisting around so personally would prefer like an egg casserole.

We usually do soup and appetizers around lunch time and then turkey between 3 and 5 depending in part on the game (ugh) and how long it’s taking to cook. Then dessert at like 7 so people driving home can get on road before it’s too late, or can just relax and watch tv or online shop or whatever.

We have a personal chef who provides all this for us.

OP here, thank you! I like the idea of an egg casserole.

I usually do an egg bake for breakfast. I would add cheese and crackers to the apps if there are kids.

For breakfast we do bagels with lox and cream cheese and all the fixings (sliced hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, onions, capers etc.) There is also always yogurt, fruit, and cereal around.

Lunch is soup (probably vegetable barley this year) with crusty bread and a cheese/cracker/charcuterie spread.

Dinner is around 5. Apps beforehand are very simple - maybe some cut veg and hummus - most of my family doesn't want to eat much before the main event.

We do bagels and pastries for breakfast from the bakery. Usually do a big salad bar with bread and cheese for lunch.

I am a huge fan of serving something hot for breakfast or brunch around 10-10:30 and then having dinner at 4. I put out a cheese board and maybe a dip or two in the afternoon for those who need a nibble before the main event. But no complicated appetizers- dip would be like sour cream mixed with a French onion soup packet and some cut veggies.

Idk if people like this tempo, but nobody has complained.

This is DCUM & Thanksgiving. You can bet people are already preparing food.

On Thanksgiving there is no cooking in my kitchen outside of the main meal, which is either at 2ish or 6ish (depending on whether our guests include people who don't want to be on the road too late).

Breakfast is something like build-your-own parfaits with yogurt/fruit/granola, crockpot oatmeal with assorted toppings, or bagels/lox/cream cheese.

Lunch is build your own deli sandwiches if the main event is at 6. If the main event is at 2 I put out an antipasti-type grazing spread around noon.

In neither case do I really serve appetizers.

Thank you. Why do people need to rush through summer? It is short enough as it is.

Why so much food between breakfast and dinner? And charcuterie is fatty crap.

Now that you’ve correctly identified the month, will you be moving on to tell us what year it is, and perhaps review your colors and your numbers?

I am in a hammock at my family’s lake cottage. We’ve been together and doing activities, and I’m taking 20 minutes on my phone with a glass of wine. I’m enjoying the summer and looking forward to the fall. It’s sad that you think you can only enjoy one moment and never anticipate a lovely future.
