| I do not love my Little Lime hydrangeas and want to swap them for a different hydrangea. Any must have favorites? I am thinking Flowerfull, a newer arborescens, but not certain. |

You do realize that Hydrangeas on the whole are not native to VA/MD?
These are the two native ones: Oak leaf (Hydrangea quercifolia) Wild hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) Both have white flowers. Oakleaf hydrangeas are native to the southeastern US. Wild hydrangeas are native to our area. Of the wild hydrangeas, some are lace caps and some are mopheads. Please do not plant more invasive species. We already have enough to deal with. |
| Hydrangeas may not all be native but they are hardly invasive |
| How much sun do you get, OP? |
How are hydrangeas invasive? You native plant zealots only undermine your cause when you use hyperbole. |
OP here. You do realize I was considering an arborescens? The vast majority of my plants are native. A handful of nativar or non-native hydrangeas will not tip that balance For the more serious questions, the area is east facing. Morning sun/afternoon shade. |
+1 Of the non-native plants you may choose for your yard, this is one of the better choices. I aim for 70-80 native and also have non-native hydrangea. |
| I have a firelight tidbit and it is lovely. Also have a ruby slippers that is struggling to get established. My garden is also about 80% native. |

I planted a new flowerfull this summer and have been impressed so far. It seems to take the heat better than my other arborescens (incrediballs). The incrediballs are planted in the same area (east facing, morning sun and afternoon shade), yet need more water to avoid wilting even though they are more established. The flowerfull is perfectly fine if I skip a couple of days of watering. Also no flopping when it rains so far.
What do you not like about the little limes? I may have other suggestions as well. |
