Loyalty Points

Is it too much to ask to just pay what something is worth? I HATE loyalty points and that Chase Reserve thread is exactly why. They are deliberately confusing. Things start off like "3x the points" and then the points are suddenly worth 1/3. I can't believe so many smart people buy into this craziness.

I haven’t paid for a hotel in over five years and I take a weekend (or longer) trip at least once every two months. Visited my kid 16 times when he was in college and never paid for a hotel room. Done right it’s an amazing hobby.

What exactly see you confused by? The categories on the CSR do not change.

I just pick ones with straight cash back. I get several thousand dollars a year so it’s the equivalent of free hotel rooms every month but without being tied to any dumb redemption scheme.

You don't see me doing it. I get cash back and every time it's $25, it's credited automatically to my account.
I have doubled my Roth IRA once a year several years in a row now after listening for years that it couldn't be done. This year I did it within 6 months, so the experience really pays off.
