Remote Work from Places that Aren't Starbucks or the Library

Anonymous
Yes, I know the RTO folks are going to say "cry me a river", but my office closed down recently and there are limits to the amount of time I can functionally work from home without getting distracted.

Obviously, Starbucks is a pretty decent place to spend an hour-hour and a half nursing a beverage while tapping laptop keys, and the library lets you park there even longer, but where else is good?

Specifically looking in a zone roughly in Fairfax City <-> Oakton <-> Fair Oaks <-> Reston, but I would take recommendations for coffee places that aren't just Starbucks and general advice.

Fix your house and remove the distractions.

I have used libraries at colleges.

A desk at a We Work is very cheap...I think the cheapest plans can be like $160/month.

There are also many We Work competitors these days.

Get a shed and setup as remote office in your yard or deck?

I would do a rotation of various libraries. But in a pinch, I was at Fair Oaks Mall in the middle of the workday the other day (because I was on leave) and it was so dead quiet that I was thinking it would be a nice change of scenery from my home office.

For Reston: Check out DeClieu. It is hidden. Also Lake Anne Coffee House. The upstairs is full of people working.

I was in the Reston Panera the other day and it was quiet and clean. I've also worked from the cafe/eating area at Whole Foods and that's been nice (I can't remember if they have wifi though - I may have been on my hotspot).

How is home distracting but a public restaurant isn't? Please don't take up a table for over an hour, it's so rude.

Weird for sure but hospitals have good wifi and places to get away and work. Wouldn't want to do it again but good to know.

+1 Seriously. They make it difficult to get a seat at busy places (like Tatte) and then give you death glares for daring to have a conversation over lunch with a friend; meanwhile they’ve finished their one cup of coffee hours ago. So obnoxious

The lobby of any nice upscale hotel.

Ugh. Don't do that. WeWork type places are pretty cheap. Not sure why you don't want to go to the library--seems like a good place to be relative to a Starbucks.
