| Hello all, so my child is a 13 year old girl, has not gotten her period yet, but is in puberty. Recently she told me she feels a small, short, fat circle/cylinder shaped ball under/inside her lower areola area of her left breast. It’s not in her other breast, and this one seems to be developing quicker, so is it normal anatomy for a growing breast? I am really concerned. Any updates would be great, thank you… |
| OP here: It does not grow, and has been here for about a month. No discomfort, it just feels firm when pressed down on. Pea sized. |
| That sounds like typical breast bud development. |
Thank you for this reply. This pea sized shape is moveable, and underneath the areola tissue. Her breasts are already large, although could it be the breast bud underneath? |
| This is very normal for breast development, including one side growing faster than the other. You could always call the pediatrician to see if they think it sounds unusual. |
| Agree with pp, sounds normal. My own mom took me to the doctor for a similar concern many moons ago, and he assured her it was part of the normal development process. |
| She needs to see a Dr. None of my daughter developed like that. |
Really? I’ve been doing google searches and it has some very weird things on there… all of them describe it being ON the nipple or upper areola. My daughters is INSIDE the areola and nipple area. A little uncentered ball that’s firm when touched. |
| Pediatrician here. Sounds like a totally normal breast bud ! |
Thanks for this reply. Everyone says that, but i’ve heard breast buds are noticeable. No one would notice this one until they’ve felt it, and it’s uncentered. Its INSIDE the breast tissue as well, but it’s shaped like a very small pea. I also heard breast buds are in the early stage of puberty, but my daughter has already started well in, just hasn’t gotten a period yet. Her breasts have been growing for a year or two now. |
All the google searches I have say things like this: "Breast buds are the most common concern. Breast buds are small, disc-shaped lumps felt under the nipple and areola. Any lump found under the areola is a breast bud until proven otherwise." https://www.seattlechildrens.org/conditions/a-z/breast-symptoms-child/ |
They're noticeable if you're feeling it, not from looking at it. |
I’m sorry i’m just really confused. Are breast buds inside the nipple/areola tissue or are they the growing fat below it? My daughter already has the second one. My daughter’s breasts seem quite developed, this is only on the left side. |
If you are worried about this why not just take your child in to get screened by a confirmed medical professional instead of continuing to debate with random people (who may or may not have legitimate medical expertise) on an online forum?? |
| Every diagram i’ve looked at does not have what my daughter is experiencing. People also describe breast buds as starting of breast growth, but this isn’t the start of it. |
