Looking for a Behind the Wheel for DD; live in Great Falls but wanted to see if anyone knows a school that can take her into Wash. DC?
My first time into DC was totally stressful; the street lights were at a different position, circles, pedestrians, etc. I figured if she could handle DC traffic then NoVA would be easy. |
| Why not do it yourself? Just choose an early morning on a weekend so there is no traffic to take your DD to DC |
| The schools are horrendous. |
| "Schools" is being generous even. More like a scam to funnel people through the DMV. This is why we have so many terrible accidents and horrible drivers in NOVA. |
If you go this route (which you might want to even if you decide to use a professional instructor for the initial go), I’d suggest you plan multiple sessions. There are two separate challenges to urban (indeed, any) driving: (1) knowing the route; and (2) dealing with the conditions. If you pick some routes, early weekend mornings would be good to learn them and get introduced to DC driving (weird traffic lights, traffic circles, etc.). Once comfortable with those the next challenge would be dealing with volume and the related insanity, as during the day and especially at rush hour. |
This. It's not rocket science. Most kids learn to drive in their early teens from their parents taking them to more remote areas to practice. |

There’s no need for this unless DD will actually be driving into DC on a regular basis. Let her learn and practice driving in the suburbs for awhile. She can come into the city when she’s ready, which may be a few years from now. |
