Crofton Redistricting

Even though they are not pulling two rivers into Crofton they are still pulling out half of Nantucket. Why is this necessary when there hasn’t been any large new development in the Crofton boundary since it opened ? Are they just anticipating new multi family units along route 3 ?

It’s simply because Crofton HS is overcrowded, even after they knocked down walls in counseling suites last summer to convert them into classrooms. Crofton/Odenton/Gambrills residents recently fought for the route 3 corridor to be written out of the recent affordable housing bill that passed in the county and they won, so there isn’t any new multi-family housing coming to that area. Crofton High was not built big enough to handle its actual population. Both Severna Park and Severn Run HS were built to accommodate far more students than Crofton. The problem is that Arundel cluster is also strapped for space, and instead of building a new middle school in the area (that could relieve both Arundel and Crofton MS) and expanding Crofton HS to accommodate another 100-200 students, they keep deciding to overcrowd one cluster for a few years and then push the crowding back over to the other side. Unfortunately, Nantucket families have been the biggest victims of this teeter tottering.
