Just released at SSA. Forget regular security clearances, AI will now be continuously monitoring government AND COMMERCIAL databases for things that make ordinary civil servants unsuitable. (Ie who don’t meet Trump’s loyalty pledge). FAQs say not monitoring social media FOR NOW (which of course means, coming soon). Also concerning language about being required to give access to PHI.
I resign at the end of next week. So thankful I jumped at the chance to get out. One way or another, Trump is going to create a workforce loyal to him and not the Constitution. (No, I can’t link, it’s on my government email, not my personal one). |
| Continuous vetting has been going on for a long time, PP. Well before AI. |
| I thought it was called continous monitoring |
SSA subject line is calling it “Personnel Vetting” and the body of the email calls it “Continuous Vetting” (CV). The remainder of the info uses the initials CV. Different agencies may be calling it different things. |
Okay. Then what does the first paragraph say “SSA [b]will implement” Continuous Vetting (CV) for all personnel”? “Will implement implies some type of new monitoring is happening. |
It may not have been used for everyone up until now but it has been discussed for a long time. Honestly it makes sense, why wait years for a renewal if there is a risk now? |
| Just a guess but it sounds like they're putting those fingerprints we submitted upon hiring to good use. Hopefully you don't do anything that requires law enforcement to take your fingerprints again! |
People in the IC have been going through continuous monitoring for 20+ years. Anyway, sweetie, your data is not private. Anywhere. It's a joke that you think it is. |
Define “risk”. When they hit social media use, do my anti-Trump social media posts that don’t relate to my job constitute a “risk” if I am within the bounds of the Hatch Act? What about the additional medical and psych records you are now required to sign over? What about my personal media consumption online, like NYT vs Fox vs WSJ? All fair game under this policy. It just gives Panitier even more of my personal data. |
And if I worked for the IC, I’d understand that. I do legal review of SSA appellate cases. Not the same thing. |
This is exactly what they're implying. "It would be a shame if you got arrested protesting ICE/Trump/any number of fascist policies because even if they don't charge you we'll know you got booked." |
Ding ding ding |
Don't do anything to get yourself arrested, and you'll be fine. It's entirely possible to hold and express political opinions without breaking the law. Some people can't figure out the boundaries between acceptable and unacceptable behavior and legal and illegal conduct, but those who can discern the difference shouldn't have any problems. |
| I certainly hope this vetting and monitoring starts at the very top and flags any unlawful things it sees with orange bumpkin, all of Congress, all appointees, all the way down. |
Sure, the only people who ever get arrested are those breaking the law. That's why we don't need courts, right? I mean, they arrested you so you must have been doing something illegal.
