Hi everyone,
My 6-year-old daughter has recently taken an interest in tennis, and we’d love to support her with some beginner lessons. We live in the West Springfield area and are open to recommendations for local facilities or private coaches who might be willing to come to a nearby public court. Also, we’re new to the junior tennis scene — what does development look like at this age? I know there aren’t traditional leagues for kids this young, but are there group clinics or other introductory competitions we should be aware of? We’re curious how to get her started down the right path if she continues to enjoy it. Thanks in advance! |

Not in your area, but check out your local Y or a racquet club..somewhere that offers group lessons. That will be more fun for her than private lessons. Plus using public courts for that purpose is tough. You can’t guarantee they will be open.
As for the junior tennis scene- it’s individual. You make a USTA account and can sign up for whatever tournaments you want. You would start with 10 and under orange ball, next would be 10 and under green ball. But I wouldn’t sign up for any tournaments until she is quite proficient. |
