| What would you consider solid super Y teams for a U15 boy in northern Virginia? |
|
Why are you asking in mid/late July? The season is over in a few days. You can go here for the current standings: https://www.usl-youth.com/league-standings/
Scroll to Mid-Atlantic Male U15s. GFR takes USL-Y seriously and pulls some good players from nearby clubs that don't have summer teams. But win or lose, there are mostly the same pluses and minuses for all the Super-Y / USL-Y teams every summer. All the clubs face the same decisions - training gets canceled a ton in the summer, due to thunderstorms and high temperatures. And they all struggle with roster size, since so many families take long vacations. They may roster 23 players, so they have 21 available for a game on, say, June 25 (too many) but then only 10 players on, say, July 7. |
Yeah - this was our first summer SuperY/USL-Y experience. Won’t be doing it again. Lots of cancellations, brutally hot, inconsistent rosters and not well organized by the club. 16 kids on our roster (9v9) and we still end up calling up 2-3 younger kids most weeks just to have enough to play. I would not use it to judge how good a club may or may not be whatsoever. Never know who’s there and who isn’t. We’ve had a GK for less than half our games and it just means everybody shuffles through in a futile attempt to be a GK. 🤣. |
It's pretty irrelevant by U15 honestly. |

As other posters have said, not as relevant in the older age groups depending on the quality of your kid. Also, we only have two more games so it is not possible for this year.
FYI, USL acquired Super Y and formed USL Y. Because you are this late in requesting, you are probably new to the game and this may or may not help in your searches for information. Many of the clubs still use Super Y in their labeling but the organization no longer exists. To help answer you question, the best teams we have played in VA have been Arlington, Alexandria and VDA. We are a few years younger. It has been a positive experience for us overall. Only three practices cancelled due to thunderstorms for us. Arlington finalizes rosters in January. Alexandria has tryouts in February and not sure about VDA. |
Yes, it will be irrelevant for my child as well but can we not judge each kids journey. It was relevant at some point. Additionally, clubs like Christos supply teams and this is one of the ways to assist USL build out an academy system that may help to eliminate P2P. |

Too late for this year. However, we picked up great coaches and networking so highly recommended if your club does not have it.
Great opportunity to gain exposure to other coaches, playing styles and kids. |
