All the reviews on target and amazon are so mixed. Looking for something super simple and on the smaller side.
We've bought a couple from Black & Decker and they have been fine. I like the basic ones with dials. I don't need special features like convection or digital readouts.
Are you looking for a smaller one b/c of space constraints? Because if you have room for a larger one, that's what I'd recommend. I have a convection/toaster oven and use it daily. Not just for waffles/toast in the morning, but it's big enough to heat chicken nuggets, fish sticks, a leftover slice of pizza, etc. for the kids, and it heats up so much faster (and uses less electricity) than our full-size oven, it is really a time-saver.
I agree with the convection oven. We got a larger one and can cook a 12 inch pizza in it in less than 10m. We use it daily.
Just got a new Breville convection toaster oven. Just over 200$, so pricey...but I am in love.
Please tell me why you love your Breville! We have friends who swear by their Breville toaster (not toaster oven), but then they have a toaster oven as well, and his just seems like one too many appliances for me. I am considering a Breville T.O. but want to be sold on it. I used to be happy with my basic Black & Decker, but they aren't as well-made as they used to be and don't toast evenly anymore (or so I have found). I gave away a Cuisinart because it took a really long time to toast a couple of slices of toast in the morning, and everyone in my house got impatient waiting for the darned thing to toast. Clearly, I'm still looking for the "right" toaster oven! Can you sing the praises of the Breville with more details? Thank you!
What are the benefits of a toaster oven (basic kind that just toasts, not a convection type) as opposed to a toaster with the slice openings on top? I want to replace my SIL's TO for a Xmas gift, but I'm only familiar with toasters. She only uses her TO for toasting bread and bagels, not heating stuff up.

We have this:
http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-22708-Toastation-2-Slice/dp/B000A1FFZE and I love it. It's both a toaster oven and a pop up toaster. Not too big, but big enough for a small frozen pizza. |
i'm the OP and would love to hear about the Breville or other recs for convection ovens.
18:17 here. We have this one too, and I agree - it gets the job done both as a toaster and as a small toaster oven. BUT - it only toasts two halves of a bagel or two slices of bread at a time, and in our family of four, that doesn't work. It takes forever to get everyone's breakfasts made. It's a good appliance, but only for a single person or couple (or people with a lot more time and patience to wait than the people in my household!!). Please, Breville praise singer - come back and tell us why! |
Breville praiser is back.
Where do I begin. It is amazing with toast, pizza (fits and entire frozen pizza in it with space) and even cookies and meatballs, etc. It is truly a marvel. Because it is convection it cooks things really evenly. While I used to fire up our oven to make pizzas, brownies, etc., now I can use the convection toaster which is far more energy efficient. It has a nice digital touch screen display that is super easy to use (I didn't even have to read the manual). And, on top of all of that...it looks nice. Brushed steel. If you have this, you definitely don't need a stand up toaster as well. I have 3 sons and I can fit toast for the whole family in each morning. I also do a lot of waffles and other items as well. Makes life so much easier, and cuts down on energy use.
