What do we think about this? I guess you will have to enter your info before getting a price.

What does "enter your info before getting a price"?
I don't see how this is different than dynamic pricing airlines already use. Prices change constantly. People are saying "AI" because it's the current hot thing justifying high stock prices. |
I assume they will use all the info from cookies, time of day, location to try and extract as much money as possible from you. Kind of like how some airlines were charging single passengers more on the assumption they were business travelers. I expect with some trial and error they will get pretty good at it. |
I enter my name and address and Delta knows lots of things about me! |
I would not be doing this - this is very clearly a company wanting to leverage profit. Once they know everything about you - they stand to figure out max price point from you. This is pretty much what Meta does via social media - Google, Apple, et al. 411 is pretty much power to influence and make money. You are entirely better off going to a google/online fare calculator to offer lowest published price. There's no free rides in life - the sooner you get that the sooner you don't get taken for a fool
|
Yeah but that's after you clicked on the price to reserve it. |
None of these things are new. |
It is now but that could change. Easy to require an account to buy a ticket Or charge an extra fee to not have an account. |
Really? You have evidence that airlines are offering personalized fares to individuals based on their location and browsing history? I am sceptical. |
| The article says they are using it on a small test group now .the percentage is rising. |
Job info Address Demographics Height Weight The list can go on. They will be able to lookup the value of your home and cross reference it with typical salaries for your job that you list to come up with a good idea of a household income. Then they'll factor in your size to get a good idea of how much more you'll pay for that aisle seat. They'll charge you a lot more for the ticket if say you're a doctor living in a $2M home because they will factor in your income and think you have a lot more disposable income than the teachers trying to fly. I want to see this epically backfire though. Imagine the day where flying is for 90% white people only because white people have more money to spend on tickets and airlines sell them all to whites and their is racial discrimination in flying. OR imagine the day MAGA learns they're paying much more to fly than say black people on the same flight BECAUSE theyre white and have a higher household income on average. Why is technology getting worse and worse and making life more miserable by the year? Progress stopped happing 15 years ago. |
Delta's losing my business. They are the largest player at my airport. They price that way. Just makes me do more driving vacations and carrier/airport shopping because I don't think they offer a good price. I have the money but won't waste it because I purchase 4 tix at a time. |
Fares change constantly based on already very complex algorithms that do include at least country of purchase location, and possibly time of day- I have seen fares change sometimes over the course of a day when I searched in the morning and it was different that night. This just seems like them doing normal changes/improvements/etc to the algorithm and dressing it up as "AI" to make it seem like some new unusual super smart investment. |
If it's a money maker the other airlines will follow. We are stuck unless driving is an option. |
With AI, they will consider your HHI, home value etc in pricing a ticket. They are not currently doing this. It’s a big change. |
