Feedback on "The Hunting Wives" from my fellow Texans?

What did the producers get right and what did they get wrong?

I'm a 7th generation Texan and I just barely got through the first episode. Women do not talk crassly like these characters -- at all. The only times I've seen anyone wear cowboy hats at a party were Texas-themed parties and once at a small town dance hall. I know women who own guns, but I don't know any who actually hunt. That's something for their husbands to bond over. I have a massive family and only four of my male relatives hunt.

What did they get right? Texans are friendly and gracious to strangers and newcomers, including those of non-white races. (In fact, they go over the top to prove they're not racist while supporting racist policies.) Women make more of an effort with clothes, hair, and make-up and it's not this stereotypically tasteless way of dressing. The ugly residential architectural styles, although that's improving. The green landscapes of East Texas dotted with oil pumps. The way that men control the women in their families. Dermot Mulroney is on pitch. He reminds me of a few of my males relatives, unfortunately.

That dig about "she thinks we're deplorables"? Oh yes. My Texas relatives subject me to all kinds of little digs and barbs like that to let me know that they're still holding on to that one, and anything else that sounds like East Coast elitism.

I watched the first ep yesterday and was wondering if this what texas is really like too LOL.

Do most of the women/wives also dress like that? The husband called britneys dress "soviet" which, ok, its a bit conservative, but margos dress was like...trashy? I guess is the word I'd use? And going hunting in other party dresses? So weird to me lol.

Do you seriously think that Hollywood can get ANYTHING correct about something like cultural differences?
Most of the time it's either ignorance on their part, being mostly rich elitists, or due to intentional misinformation and propaganda in an attempt to sway politics or to cause controversy.

Texan here. I have not even heard of this show much less watched it. I just looked it up because I thought maybe it was another Taylor Sheridan abomination. Surprisingly, it is not. I guess others are jumping on the overdramatization of Texas cliches and stereotypes bandwagon with some heavy misogyny thrown in. (See Landman)

Nothing will come close to Dallas and JR Ewing.

We are watching 2 episodes a night. It's actually an interesting mystery show.

It was a great show - entertaining - but I am guessing that in real life there is way less lesbian sex among Texan female friend groups?

I don't go back 7 generations but agree with most of this (I do know women who hunt, but they're not the same kind of women who would say "we don't work, we *wife*", [which, of course: no one says that, but the women they're trying to portray don't hunt]). Also there is promiscuity and adultery but not on the surface like this shows - a woman they met that week wouldn't be in the inner circle to know who was banging whom. And the wives of the richest men in town aren't all vapid idiots who just had a couple of classes in community college, they're almot all well-educated and often met the guy at college.

So you are Mexican? 7 generations ago is a long time.

It is clearly not meant to be a realistic show, it is bonkers over the top, albeit very entertaining. The main character, who is from the east coast, comes off like a complete idiot compared to the Texans.

I’m a 5th generation Texan. I haven’t watched this show. It does somewhat depend on economic status and whether they live in a city or rural area but, generally, Texan wives aren’t much different from DCUM other than you’ll see more highlighted hair.

Just like "Yellowstone" is soooo far from reality, so are all TV programs.

I’m not Texan, it grew up in the south. So I get the gun rights culture and megachurch attendance and purity rings. Plus southerners really are crazy nice, polite and chatty. Just be warned that they will also rip you a new o e with a smile k their face and the n send you a note on custom monogrammed stationary.

I binged this show though, it’s perfect summer watching. Bonkers storyline, interesting murder mystery, creepy moms, swingers and ai like Brittany snow!
