Anyone tracking the DC spending bill? I saw this yesterday https://x.com/maustermuhle/status/1947061060466315508
(Sorry I can never remember how to embed an image). but that's all I've really seen. The bill would: - Repeal D.C.'s assisted suicide law. - Prohibit D.C. from using traffic cameras, or to ban rights turns on red. - Repeal non-citizen voting in D.C. - Require that D.C. recognize concealed carry permits from every other state. - Repeal a police discipline reform bill passed in 2020. - Prohibit D.C. from enforcing consumer protection laws against oil and has companies for environmental claims. - maintain existing restrictions on spending of any funds to subsidize abortions, or to legalize the recreational sales of cannabis. Lots of DC meddling, but at the very end of the thread he says DC Tag is still in there. (I don't want to jinx it by saying anything else about it). So, who knows. a long way to go. |
I am absolutely fine with repealing non-citizen voting in DC, the repeal of the police so-called "discipline reform" bill, and the assisted suicide law. Neutral on prohibition of traffic cameras. (Stop speeding and you don't have a problem, OP.) |
Feels like there is virtually no chance DCTAG gets raised, despite what’s in this version of the bill. Why would anyone want to vote for us to get more assistance here? |
I love it, except for the part about abortions. The GOP wants to protect the residents. But then it restricts abortions. If you limit abortion, you will eventually increase the danger to the city bc you will have even more unwanted kids terrorizing the residents. |
Do you live in DC? |
yes, for 25 years |
I wish the provision on speed cameras was about the absurd speed limits that are clearly designed only for revenue and not safety and not an outright prohibition. |
+100. I don’t mind cameras. But some of the speed limits in non-pedestrian areas are way, way too low. |
If the cameras were for safety I’d learn to live with them, but clearly they’re not. It’s revenue and the post keeps reporting that it’s only dc residents that have to pay since there’s no reciprocity agreement with me and Va. And they’re not just speeding. My brother was visiting and got one for not stopping a full three seconds at a stop sign (the rental car company had already paid and he never got to see the video— just a bill passed on). It’s just more of our elected leaders doing a partial job based on how they think the world should work. |
^^ with MD and VA Damn autocorrect |
I’m good with most but not all of these. |
I loved when there was proposed legislation that said if you were a black, you didnt have to pay the fines. Did that pass? |
Actually in the bill the funding for DCTAG gets cut by 50%. Yet EHN claims she scored a “win” by getting the DCTAG raised to $15k a year. Gonna be hard to give $15k a year with 50% less money. Get ready for only the poorest families to qualify. |
This. It's simply money grab |
