Alternative ways to fulfill 0.5 art requirement for graduation

Anonymous
For reasons unknown to us, our DD was not offered an art class in her high school and now has to figure out how to get that 0.5 credit in her senior year. She has been offered an online course but I want to see if there are other ways for her to get this 0.5 credit. Has anyone been able to complete this 0.5 credit through an alternative option? And no, it isn't possible for her to take an intro to art class at her school.

That’s insane. You should report the school to OSSE and your city council representative.

And sorry, in my experience high schools are annoyingly persistent about graduation requirements, so I don’t know of any other way to check that box.

What's the online class? If it's music appreciation that's probably a win.

At colleges, art history 101 and music appreciation/history of music are common.

In high schools where I live, being in band, choir, or orchestra are the most common ways to satisfy this, followed by art/graphic design.

You may look into afterschool classes (original credit/Twilight). Alternately, dual enrollment options also have an art college credit she can take. This is free through DCPS.
