Sizemore-Heizer Running for Braddock BOS

Anonymous
As expected, Rachna Sizemore-Heizer has announced she’ll be running for the Braddock seat on the Board of Supervisors that James Walkinshaw is expected to vacate.

She’ll be running against her own School Board colleague, Ilryong Moon.

I guess it would have been too much to ask for them to concentrate on the jobs they were elected to do.

Rachna was absolutely awful as an at-large SB member. Only cared about Lake Braddock and no other pyramid. And she’s behind the Policy 8130 revisions that have resulted in the mess of a county-wide boundary review now taking place.

Interestingly she was one of the three SB members who abstained from the vote to purchase the King Abdullah Academy. Did she think that Braddock residents are against that deal?

I don't think she and Moon think that Braddock is against the deal as much as it does nothing for Braddock district and they can pretend to be "fiscally conservative."

Peter principle for one of them.

Both Moon and Sizemore-Heizer have been at-large school board members at different times. As between the two of them, Moon took a much greater interest in what was happening all over the county. All Rachna cared about was Lake Braddock (even when she was an at-large member) and promoting her kid's musical career. She pretends to care about Woodson now that she's the Braddock representative on the school board, but it's phony.

How do we know what her platform is? Moon at least said he was against the new 8130 because no one ran on the optic. rachna Sizemore mentioned nothing about redistricting or boundary policy during her run and then chaired the committee. So, how would we have any idea what her platform is when the biggest policy change in 40 years of FCPS was done under her leadership without her mentioning it?

She forgot about grandfathering. Forgot what she was voted to do: help FCPS kids.

What does it matter? She wasn’t honest about her platform during the last election for school board. She didn’t say a word about a boundary review during the campaign. And then after Election Day this became the board’s biggest priority? Why would you believe anything she (or Moon) says now about their plans for the BOS?

I know the Walkinshaw is almost 100% likely to win, but isn't it a little presumptuous to have a slick website out before the seat is certain to be open?

I don't think Moon has an election website out yet.

But, the GOP would be smart to find a decent candidate, because I don't see any School Board member being a popular choice.

The Democrats are running based on the assumption that Walkinshaw will win and need to vacate his BOS seat. It’s hard for a Republican to announce now because they’d also have to assume Walkinshaw will defeat his GOP opponent.

Even so, if the GOP can find a moderate candidate in the John Cook mold to run in Braddock, they’d have a good chance. Moon comes across as senile now and Rachna is a total narcissist. And both are complicit in the current boundary study mess, especially Rachna. Neither deserves a seat on the BoS.

The minute a Republican runs for this I will donate, I don't care how much of a Trumpian disaster this person is. I don't live in Braddock so I can't vote there. But I will take a photocopy of my donation check and mail it to the Fairfax Democrats' HQ. Because the boundary review matters to some of us and there needs to be consequences.

+1. What is a meaningful amount for these races? Ready to go big to hold the school board members to account for the boundary fiasco.

If they are smart, they will delay it until after KAA is resolved and the boundaries there drawn. They can "delay" and then say the problem has resolved itself in some of these other areas.

If SB is smart, that is what they will do. And, FIX COATES.
Also, address the instruction at the troubled schools. That is more important than placing more affluent kids there.

I've lived in Braddock District for a long time. I have neighbors active in FCRC and while some of them are reasonable and interesting people, some of them are crazy. And they can never, ever find anyone non-crazy to run. I hate it, because we need 2 functioning parties in Fairfax County. Anyone want to step up?

You think we don't have that on the current School Board?

It's hard to say. On the one hand, the GOP is largely Trump's party now, and hugely unpopular in Fairfax. On the other hand, the GOP should attract better alternatives to the likes of Moon and Sizemore-Heizer, neither of whom deserve to serve on the BOS, if they think they have a better chance of winning. When others think the FCDC-endorsed candidates have a lock on local elections, they aren't likely to run, which makes it even more likely the GOP-endorsed candidates who do emerge are going to be weird extremists.

In any event, it's hard to see why Moon or Sizemore-Heizer should be rewarded for their time on the School Board with a seat on the BOS. Moon seems senile now, and Rachna is one of the biggest narcissists to serve on the School Board in recent memory. Megan McLaughlin would have been a better alternative.
