| I find myself with more time to read lately and prefer paper books - which is getting expensive. I don't mind browsing a used book store but there isn't one near me and I often prefer to read what I want not what might be available in a used book store. Recommendations for favorite places to buy online? |
| Thriftbooks.com. |
| I love Thriftbooks. |
| Thrift is also my favorite, but Abe is a second option. |
|
Better World Books is my favorite.
I find their condition reports better and they don't just deal with remainders (I feel like Thriftbooks and bookoutlet are mostly remainders?). They are also better at logging specific versions of a book, so if you're looking for an older version, you can often find it there. https://www.betterworldbooks.com/ |

| Abe finds rare or old books. |
| ebay has the cheapest books! some are free shipping some aren't. Most sellers do a buy two get one free, I got 3 books for $7 delivered to me a few times now! |
| Btw, why aren't you going to the library if you prefer paper books? |
Abe is owned by Amazon. |
Because I don't want to wait for the book I want. I don't want to read it in a specific time frame in order to return it on time. And, I lend a lot of my books which I can't do with a library book. |
| thriftbooks because it isn't owned by Amazon - unlike Abebooks. AND thriftbooks many times has new books for used prices. Also halfpricebooks.com is another site. Started in Texas decades ago as brick and mortar - also not owned by Amazon. |
