I'm looking for a step up from IKEA but nothing fancy or over-the-top. Well-made, sturdy, able to withstand the wear and tear from a teen boy. |
I got nice dressers at Bob's but they are hit or miss and some are nice and wood and some are particle board. My son has had a bassett dresser for years and still looks really good but they are crazy expensive now. Got his on clearance. |
What’s your budget because the thing is that there isn’t really a step between IKEA and high quality. IKEA is the best option below a pretty high price point.
Otherwise you can do secondhand/vintage or unfinished solid wood furniture. |

Consider that your teen is leaving in 4-5 years for college so doesn't need it for long. Top of the line Ikea may be the way to go.
If not, I'd go for Facebook Marketplace and find PB Teen furniture there. |
Forget the "teen" aspect and just buy bedroom furniture. |
This. Antiques also so they last longer than modern made junk. If you try to buy quality modern new furniture, you will run into the 5 figures for every item. |

Ikea is the way. My son has chosen several pieces there. None of them are what I would have chosen but none are terrible. |
