My dr prescribed HRT, I also had genetic screening and don’t have any risk factors.
Thoughts? Am I being reckless for staying on it? I’m still peri |
Unless your friend happens to have some kind of medical expertise (NOT the Facebook kind) you should trust your doctor over them. |
If your friend was not a moron and was in fact a scientist you’d have mentioned it. Do you think the women who stay here railing against HRT, who themselves are not physicians nor scientists, and your friend have expertise in anything? I don’t. |
Stop telling friends your medical information. |
There is a large push now for HRT, with so much stuff about "debunking" old research. In fact, old research is just being rebranded for Gen X because Gen X is now in menopause.
You can actually read studies on your own. They are all available. Yes, there is still risk. The rebranding explains the risk. You can decide for yourself. |
your friend is wrong. That older cancer study was very, very flawed. |
This. And stop talking with your friend about this. I’ve been taking HRT for 4 years. The interpretation of the study was grossly flawed. |
Nice quote marks, rawdogger. |
I would not be on HRT if I was you. |
Unless there is a specific reason prevents you from taking it, why wouldn’t you? Before responding, read this: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/01/magazine/menopause-hot-flashes-hormone-therapy.html |
It was flawed but too many women with risk factors were being given HRT. OPs dr sounds like they have screened for those factors. |
This is the poster who likes to induce panic in anyone for any reason. |
Yes, it is weird how it is being pushed now. I’m guessing it’s probably a money maker for the companies that sell it. |
My doc said I absolutely need to stay on it until at least 50 (I had a complete hysterectomy and ovaries removed at 43). It is appropriate more than some realize. |
I don’t usually recommend Reddit but the menopause subreddit is pretty informative- check out the wiki there.
HRT has been proven to have small risks for some women, and proven benefits like better bone health. There’s no simple answer. I’m in peri and on HRT because I was having awful hot flashes without it. Now I sleep better, my shoulder pain has gone away, my skin looks amazing, and my brain fog is gone. |
