Health care proxy for 19 year olds?

Anonymous
Do we need this? Also, should it be both parents? If not both, should it be the parent with the same last name or the parent that better knows the adult child’s health history?0

Can you ask this 19 year who they wish to add as a proxy?

Neither of them care. We’re trying to figure out what is typical or allowed.

RN here who unfortunately has seen many people in unthinkable situations. Everyone should have health care proxies and everyone should have the difficult discussions about what they want if they can't make decisions for themselves.

DH is not mine. I trust him with my life but I want my friend who is also a nurse and understands all the medical stuff to make the decisions for me. And I also don't want DH to feel any guilt because I have very specific instructions about what I want done if I'm ever found down or sedated and intubated for an extended period of time.
