Title says it all.
My DH and I are coming to the view that it's here to stay and would like to do some investing. I realize we missed the big gains but anyone have insight as to where to begin to vet/research which are good buys or not? Please no snark, we are not huge investors and generally sort of risk averse so we are figuring it out. Thanks. |
If you aren’t an investor and you are risk averse, crypto is last thing you want. Much volatility.
If you re-he-heally want to invest in it, you should think of the amount as money you’d expect to lose. Like if you were going to play the slots. |
No. It's not an investment. It does nothing productive and has zero intrinsic value.
It is speculation that someone dumber than you will pay more than you did for it. It has some uses for organized crime, too, if you are into that. If you are a non-criminal risk-averse investor, you should stay far away from crypto. But do your own research. Getting your investment advise from random strangers on the Internet probably isn't the best way to achieve financial security and wealth. |
You’re late to the game. Should have started at least 5 yrs ago. |
This sounds so year 2000. ![]() |
Put 5% of your portfolio in it and forget about it. Have a long term view of it (minimum 10 years). I bought starting at under 10k and am still buying. You have missed out on some gains but there are many more cycles still to come. Just hold it and don't worry about big drops. You're not going to get rich by being risk averse. |
I have Fidelity account, any recommendations on which ones to get? |
You can buy a number of Bitcoin ETFs on fidelity. I don't invest in those but they are a good way to get a piece with less risk. I personally buy BTC directly on coinbase. There are also a number of other exchanges where you can buy crypto directly. |
Is anyone buying puts betting on crypto crash ? |
Fidelity runs its own Bitcoin ETF (ticker symbol is FBTC). Fidelity has a lot of published information about it and bitcoin in general, start here: https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/active-investor/what-is-bitcoin |
I’m where you are. I get it and we’ve thought about all of these things. |
No. |
So I read Jeff’s front page article on crypto and its harms.
Yeah, I totally agree with all of it. But I hate to say it, I’m still buying bitcoin stocks because I like money. I’m buying ether ETFs because they are producing money. It’s here to stay. All of it. Congress has three new bills codifying new rules and sht. You might as well buy regular stocks but also crypto. But only Bitcoin, eth and Solana. Bitcoin will prob go to a million in time. |
Betterment recommends 5% or less of your portfolio. I think of it as gambling. I have one etf and have small amounts of the main coins which I plan to use AFTER my main retirement accounts and DCA after my bills and real experiences. |
A word of caution - I love what Jeff has created via this site but there is a non-zero chance he receives special interest $ to promote certain viewpoints to his readers. There’s a lot of banking association $ flowing to bloggers, large BlueSky and X accounts, etc. to speak out against crypto right now. I’d love for this NOT to be the case - would be great if he had a page listing the funding sources for this site for transparency. |
