My middle schooler is an avid reader but I still love to read a book to her at night (when sports, homework, etc.) don't get in the way.
We just read Outsiders which I somehow missed as a kid. Any recommendations? (She already read all the Harry Potters, Hunger Games, Percy Jacksons .. and I am not a huge fan of the Dystopian stuff myself.) |
My middle schooler really liked Wonder. |
We read to our middle schooler too. We've done Lord of the Rings, All Creatures Great and Small, Hitchhikers Guide ... thinking about starting Sabriel by Garth Nix. I'm trying to sell Island of the Blue Dolphins but no interest yet.
Mostly I look for stuff that I enjoy but that because of its age or cultural differences might be hard to read alone. |
Pick something you liked at her age. I’m reading the girl who drank the moon with my 11 yr old and dad is reading Tom Sawyer. |
Sorry, sent too soon. I want to family read 1984 but, dystopian. |

The War that Saved My Life and the sequel, The War I finally Won are both absolutely beautiful. About young people in Operation Pied Piper.
