Rutgers has a major image problem - do a college tour at Rutgers and Penn State on back to back days and just about every
kid (and parents) will prefer penn state, even though Rutgers is arguably the better school in many areas - engineering, business, etc

UDel gets more luv than Rutgers too, cute town small campus closer to a large liberal arts feel.

West Virginia is a great school hurt by the fact - no other way to say it - that it’s in West Va

Is this your first day on this board?

Yep. So?

DCUM is too snobby for West Virginia.

Probably for Rutgers, too.

UDel is a great school that does get some love here. I think lots of DCUMers use it as a safety school.

Until I learned more, this is exactly how I felt about Pitt.

Also on this list.: App State and U Kentucky

WVU has made major cuts in academic programs because of budget issues.

Pitt is nothing like WV - and Pitt is a darling of DCUM based on the rolling early acceptance process

West Virginia seems like a dream destination to me - peaceful, bucolic, nature!

See post above re general snobbery of this board. Discussion is focused on maybe 50 total highly selective universities and LACs that are out of reach for the vast majority of high school students. Added bonus if you want to droll on about how one of that group is not really “elite.” (“Is Cornell the Worst Ivy?”). When someone seeks information on a school outside of that cohort, some troll will invariably jump in to offer their negative impression.

This. Even great state flagships are sneered at.
