DOGE hire at NIH fired after wife’s company gets multi-million contract

I thought the new regime was all about rooting out waste, fraud and corruption. Looks like the new NIH COO Eric Schnabel didn’t get the memo.

Glad to see him go. He couldn’t even compose an email properly. Guess he didn’t live by his own words.

It seems like they are about rooting out corruption as he was fired. Wife is likely to lose the contract too.

Was he MAGA?

Shouldn’t they be implementing processes so that people with a vested interest don’t get hired in the first place? Hiring and firing when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar isn’t “rooting out corruption.”

To be fair, the wife was being onboarded as a senior analyst at this company. To call it the "wife's company" is somewhat misleading. This is just old fashioned favoritism the likes of which I am nostalgic for. My guess is they wanted to fire this guy and this was an easy excuse.

I feel so bad for the NiH folks. These are really smart talented people who have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of others and the American people really have done them dirty. How are you supposed to work in conditions like this?

Is the Pope Catholic?

Doesn't say in the article that they rescinded the contract, either.

Bahahaha. I have heard they are garbage people anyways.

Glad to see the Trump admin drops dead weight as needed.

Wonder if this was one of Musk’s lackeys who lost influence.

Seems awfully unqualified to get a sole source contract

Trish Schnabel, a licensed professional counselor according to an online profile, who sometimes uses her maiden name, Duffy, would have been one of the staff supported by the contract, and she would not have received the full $3.3 million, according to officials. According to a federal website, NIH awarded a sole-source contract. The contract supports “project coordination and subject matter expert support” for a broad swath of administration priorities, including autism, counterintelligence and high-level strategic research security. An internal spreadsheet obtained by The Washington Post showed that Trish Schnabel was being onboarded as a “senior analyst” in the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives.

Who decided to fire him? He appears to be one of them.

Wow, you have to really screw up to get fired by MAGA when you're on their side.
