Just rewatched the Star Wars prequels with my tween

…Just rewatched the Star Wars prequels with 12 year old son.

I feel like the lesson here is that you can never be cool until you go full on Dark Side. There is no version of Anakin Skywalker that any little boy wants to be.

Depending on your level of interest, Anakin in the Clone Wars series is pretty fun. It’s probably the only decent portrayal of the character. He pops up again in Ahsoka and is equally compelling.

Ugh, I really disliked the prequels. The 3rd one, I almost called whatever cable company we had at the time and demanded my rental fee back.

The first prequel is much better on a second viewing because you know what's going on. With my kids I explained who everyone was and what they were doing so they weren't confused the whole time. The second one was pretty good. The third one was the best of the series.

There are only four good Star Wars movies:

The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Rogue One
The Force Awakens

The rest are whatever.

Yep. The first one came out when I was in college and all my friends waited overnight outside the theater to get tickets and seats. You could hear the confused disappointment in the lobby afterwards.

The bar was not high: I was a fan, I went in so willing to be happy with anything. And came out stunned at how bad it was.

I mean, you're supposed to admire Obi-Wan or the other guy (Qui-gon?), not Anakin. I do think Anakin is a weak unlikeable character intentionally.

So hot in the last one and I think his career took a bad bad hit because that movie was so bad. Not his fault. Can you imagine getting this role (SKYWALKER!) and then it tanks your career?

At least King Joffrey is still working in that new Lena Dunham show.

Return of the Jedi too.
I was in middle school when then came out in theaters. It was an absolute thrill to be there in the dark and watch how powerful Luke was. I felt like I was part of something really big. Maybe you had to see it during the era, the way we watched movies back then.
