How competitive is it to get into clubs at your child's college?

I'm hearing that it's very difficult at many colleges to get into clubs. That it takes students several tries to get into clubs. Interested in hearing what other parents have to say their student(s')'s experience(s).

Ah. I'm guessing my kid's DnD club is not selective

The social/fun/community service Clubs are open at my child’s large OOS public, but the professional organizations like the business/engineering fraternities are competitive. Also, the sports clubs are very competitive. Still, there are enough open clubs for everyone!

I suspect this is only an issue at T20ish schools for certain kinds of clubs, like pre-professional ones (investment, etc).

Consulting and Finance clubs are insane. Good thing you don’t need them especially if you have your own connections.

Amherst clubs are not allowed to get school funding if they have any sort of selection criteria.

OP: I'm guessing that this is the case as well. Where I am hearing of it being the case is at those kind of schools.

At least a couple of CS related clubs at UMD require an application and interview

UCLA and Georgetown are horrific
My kids had 5+ interviews plus essays for club admissions

Hard to get into the best eating clubs at Princeton.

Hard to get into finance clubs and other pre-professional clubs at Emory and campus publications can be competitive too. However events hosted by those clubs are open to all and there are many other (noncompetitive) student organizations.

Club Sports- some super competitive. My kid was 1 of only 2 Freshmen to make the club team in his sport at an Ivy. They travel almost as much as the Varsity team.

He was able to join some academic clubs easily—in area international policy/politics.

Kids make their own clubs and they are easy to get started.

I’m not aware of any competitive clubs at my DC’s slac. Definitely not the vibe there.

Doesn’t apply to all slacs though. I know CMC has a very competitive investment club.
