Senior year, reduced schedule?

Anonymous
My rising senior has 7 classes on his schedule, 2 of which are redundant electives. He wants to do rigorous training in his sport this year and maybe a small part time job. Would it be crazy to let him drop the 2 redundant electives and have a shorter school day? He has plenty of credits to graduate, will still take all his core classes at a high level and truly does not need these particular electives. He will still be taking 4 IB core classes plus 1 high level IB academic elective but is not doing the IB certificate.

He will be applying to LACs and small universities that are somewhat selective but not highly selective and wants to do D3 in his sport.

Email the counselor but I’d think it would be fine. There is no guarantee the free blocks will be at the beginning or end of the day for a late arrival or early dismissal if you wait and drop later. I’m not an admissions counselor though.

You want to ask about an “off campus waiver.” When counselors come back in August, they will be finalizing schedules, so it’s worth contacting the DSS to ask about it now.
