I am with my parents and had turned the stove off. My mom said the stove was off and my dad goes ”Oh sorry I just turned it off”
…. I am the one who did that. He keeps acting like this and I don’t know if he’s super stressed or what? 65 years old

hearing loss. probably mild to moderate loss at that age.

Get blood work done. Could be dementia. Lack of sleep. Stress. Or all of those things plus or minus something.

Absent any other behaviors, it’s impossible to know what this means. Is this the only thing he’s doing that’s raising alarm bells?

he always keeps forgetting. When it comes to things like this. I think he just wants to answer quickly

He may think your mom is a nag ( even if she's not a lot of men in that generation default to that) so just instinctively says he did whatever it is she is saying was done or should have been done.

My mom has dementia and often makes up stories that sound plausible. It can be unnerving, because she is very convincing. I think it's just her brain filling in for missing memories/incomplete information.

This. He's filling in what he thinks is the right thing to say, to seem normal.

Reiterating this x 1000. My mother with Alzheimer’s does this pretty much 100% of the time.
