Wait til Trump fires the Fed chair and spooks the bond markets-then we’ll have 30 pct inflation plus no money to buy things with.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/business/cpi-report-inflation-june.html U.S. Inflation Accelerated in June as Trump’s Tariffs Pushed Up Prices The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year ago, as the global trade war started to bite. |
This may seem like just one data point, but the median CPI has been coming down EVERY month since January 2023.
It tells us that the steady drop in inflation is over. And I'll just say it, coasting on Biden’s economic policies is over. We're in the Trump economy now. |
Yeah, just wait till tariffs slowly start adding up. Tariffs historically have been insidious and sticky. Add the big dumb spending bill upping deficit and we will be inflating our way out of this mess. People in charge also won’t be the brightest. |
Don't we want the revenue from tariffs kind of like we want revenue from higher corporate taxes? More money into the governments hands that does not come directly from wage earners sounds like a good thing. |
It's almost like the economists who predicted exactly this knew what they were doing. |
Yes of course there are never higher prices paid by wage earners because of tariffs. We have to pay for these, one way or another. Every single economic analysis of tariffs show they are a net negative because they are a deadweight loss. It's not a debatable point. |
Who do you think pays the tariffs? It actually results in an extremely regressive tax policy. |
It reduces profits and CEO pay. A win for all! |
Biden's policies that gave historic levels of inflation? Thank god his policies are over. |
The tariffs are passed to consumers as a tax. The tax is regressive because lower income people spend a greater proportion of their income on goods and services. The other thing that will happen is that US exporters (like automakers) have to pay tariffs on their inputs (50% steel and aluminum tariffs, for example). That will increase the cost of American cars compared to European or Chinese cars. American exporters will be at a disadvantage. There is also a boycott America sentiment in most other countries, which also affects exporters. |
+1 |
hahaha I'm laughing so hard. tears. |
“Coasting on Biden’s economic policies is over.” 🤡 Oh, you mean the economic policies that created inflation levels that had not been seen in the majority of the Americans’ lifetime and which in your party having zero power in Washington DC?? |
They can only increase prices by the amount consumers are able to and willing to pay |
I think it’s mean to add tariffs (tax) to things we buy while we overusing the amount of things available to us. I can’t wait until this is over. |
