Anyone else's pool cracking down on "lightning" -- making people get out of the water at the slightest hint?

I'm torn on it--they're using some automatic system, so no one can argue. On the one hand, lightning is real and dangerous. on the other hand, it's closing a lot.

Won't crack down on nasty swimwear, will crack down on weather. :smdh:

I actually think the thunder is crazier. If thunder is detected, the water closes for 30 minutes. This Saturday, thunder was detected from 20 miles away while it was sunny and hot. The storm did eventually arrive… 2.5 hours later. Insane.

Our pool uses a weather app and gets alerted if lightening is within a certain distance. it doesn't matter someone sees it.

Our indoor pool does this. They said they need to upgrade their lightning system WTF

Ours has a system detecting lightning within a 10 mile radius... and shuts down for 30 minutes and requires everyone to leave the pool area. People are PISSED. I get it, but I'm curious what ohter pools are doing.

In the past it was "if the teen lifeguard notices thunder and feels like it, they blow the whistle and everyone has to stop swimming for awhile"... so i appreciate the codification.

A rule is a rule. If your kid gets electrocuted, you're going to wish the rules were followed. The storms of late have been quite unpredictable. I'm surprised anyone is complaining about this.

These people complaining about a pool closing out of PRECAUTION when an actual threat is identified were probably also screaming about why the Texas camps weren't more prepared to evacuate during a flash flood warning. Except one scenario inconveniences them.

Its not wanting to be inconvenienced during a weather threat.... people ignore warnings all the time. They scream when something bad finally happens.

yeah, no... one is a group of people at a pool in suburban DC who are frustrated that they only have 40 minutes to swim before having to bring the kids for dinner and some mysterious system detected lightning in Bowie and so now no one can swim.

the other is a national tragedy.
