Would you take back inedible lunch?

Anonymous
Twice in the past couple of weeks, I have picked up lunch to eat at my desk, but only then discovered that it was inedible. One time, I found a strange hair in my food and the other time, I got a chicken breast sandwich that seemed essentially raw. (Being pregnant, I didn't even want to try it.) I felt like I already used up my time away from the office, and didn't keep the receipts. Could I even try to get my money back the next day? If so, do I save the food in the fridge and bring it back to prove that I bought it? Or just write it off and vow to brown bag it more often?

Call the restaurant and explain to them what the problem is. I did this once and they gave me a free meal the next time I went in (but my issue was that the meat was way overcooked - not sure I'd want a freebie if I found a hair!)

I think you just right it off and don't go there again.

If its a place where you basically need to go often due to other options, I would talk to the manager the next day about it. I wouldn't save the food - ick! Honestly, as much as I wouldn't eat the food with hair in it, I think these things just sometimes happen. I wouldn't write off the restaurant forever because of it. The manager would definitely want to know if chicken is being served undercooked. So talking to them would benefit the restaurant.

Why go back?

If this happens again, call the establishment and I bet they accommodate you. Give details (the woman with the reddish hair checked me out) when you don't have to receipts. Chances are they give you a free lunch next time. I'd brown-bag more often!
