Any advice for a dealing with CPS investigation for an overflow reaction?

A child said her mom would slap her if she XYZ and my child said her dad did slap her for that. They are 12. My child was joking. She has never been slapped by her dad. She has never even lived with her dad she hasn't even seen her dad since she was 5. Since there's no contact info for her dad, they reported me (mom).

Cps isn’t going to do anything if there are no marks or bruises or something bigger. Who reported it? Just tell them what you told us.

What advice are you looking for? Was the mom a mandatory reporter? My husband is, and would have reported this, too.

What will COS do? They’ll see your child has no contact with her dad. They’ll ask her questions. They’ll ask you questions. They’ll find dad and ask him questions. It’ll be over.

As pp said CPS likely isn't going to do anything and I'm honestly surprised they are investigating this at all.. you need to have a serious chat with your daughter. And consider limiting her time with whomever called this in

If a mandatory reporter, this needs to be called in. Don't blame them for this. Talk to your daughter. You will likely have a series of phone calls with CPS.

Your daughter is coping because she has no dad. She’s making up stories instead. She needs a father figure in her life - neighbor, uncle, grandpa, etc. this is a red flag for future big issues that CPS should be involved in and you need to help her now.

This. They won't investigate if there are no visible marks or injuries.

They will not find dad.

I had something similar happen. Not sure what others are saying, but I think CPS has to investigate any report. Ours was closed quickly. For the record, no bruises or marks on my child either and my child is and has never been hit.

I would immediately cut off contact with that family, those are not your or her friends.

Oh also you should call cps and report THEM. How insane that their child first said her parents slapped them and then those parents had the gall to report you??

Well I’d think this would obviously not go anywhere, given she doesn’t even see her dad. So I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
