George Washington vs BU?

which would your kid choose and why? little surprised to see parchment with a strong lean towards GWU as I believed BU was considered more prestigious. Reach schools are Lehigh and Bucknell, but looking to round out DCs targets and trying to get a feel for these two schools - thank you in advance

How would BU be a target for a kid for whom Lehigh or. Bucknell are reaches?

Both GWU and BU are solid private schools with a urban layout. Can't go wrong either way depending on preference: Washington DC or Boston?

However, based on acceptance rate and selectivity, BU is a little bit more of a reach than either Lehigh or Bucknell.

Which BU? Boston U?

Neither GW nor BU is a target. GW is a safety, BU a reach. Our school internally GW acceptance rate is 80+ %.

If you are looking to add to target list, find another school.

For what?

Political bent, GWU. Almost anything else BU. But partly that’s a locality thing, Boston vs DC, I (and my kid) like Boston more.

BU reach
Lehigh target/reach
Bucknell GW safeties

GW wins that one easy. BU is facing financial headwinds and cutting staff.

Depends on major and what city they like. Also, GW is very expensive and not my kid of campus. I hate Boston. It's so dreary. What does your kid like?

both were vibe heavy for my kids. liked GW a lot and hated BU.

because they are better

GW seems to be more of the “it” school vs the other schools mentioned. At my DCs NY private, GW is frequently mentioned as a strong safety / target where others are not - just my 2 cents!

We visited BU and liked the campus along the river and the students were friendly, but you have to want to go to school in Boston. My DS applied, partially because he socially liked the idea of being in a city with so many other students (NEU, Harvard and MIT are nearby, among others), but it is rumored to have grade inflation.

As others say, it is a reach, not a target, but is test optional, last I heard, if the SAT/ACT is an issue.

Funny, complete opposite for my DC.

Advise people to check for themselves.

My kid got into Georgetown SFS and Swat and waitlisted at BU, so I definitely wouldn't consider BU a target. With that said, I'd pick BU over GW, but I think it's as much about personal preference as anything else.
