Thinking about a vacation home across the country (too far to drive). For those that have widely separated homes, do you keep a second car at the vacation home? If so do you have issues with maintenance since it sits idle for 10-11 months out of the year? Or do you just eat the cost and rent a car for 1-2 months? |
We keep a car there and the same person who manages the property in our absence also drives the car around. We also will do shorter trips throughout the year to the house. |
We rent a car for about the two months a year that we are there. We do have a golf cart that we have our property manager keep up for us. |
Leave a car there. Property care taker drives it periodically for us. |
We leave a car at an offsite airport parking place. With a cover on it. We pay for the year upfront and have a lock box on the car. Every month the manager drives the car for about half an hour. Then we let him know when we are coming in and he makes sure the battery is good and the air in tires is good.
We give the manager a nice holiday tip. |
We drive for anything longer than a week and rent for anything shorter. We have condos in CO and I notice some of the other owners leave a car here in the garage and it's so dusty and seems like more maintenance than it's worth. |
Ours is a beach community, so people either have their own golf carts or you rent them for the duration of your stay. Uber to get back and forth to airport. |
