SYC is getting rid of all sports and only focusing on soccer.

Many of the parents have been talking about this. There hasn't been a board meeting but somehow all the new board members are from travel soccer....

No chance they are getting rid of other sports. Maybe there wasn't enough interest to step up and help from those with kids in other sports.

what a dumb post. we are all stupider for having read it.

rec sports boards take whoever they can get to help out.

This is true.

And those new board members are all parents from the same team. What are the odds?

What team? When did this happen?

If they do, they’ll need more staff for actual development vs attracting the biggest kids around… they are short staffed on the soccer side for sure. But they make lots of money running all the other sports. If They wanted to get serious about soccer, they need more than 1 guy running the show.

Seems like some pot stirring. No chance they cut revenue they're getting from other youth activities and what would be the improvement be? SYC's biggest challenge will always be field space and facilities, cutting the other programs isn't going to improve that. Their other programs don't directly interfere with their soccer programming, their soccer programming is directly affected by their lack of facilities and field space.

Wow OP, so you --a non soccer parent--volunteered to help run the org and were turned down, or what?

Running rec sports is time consuming and thankless and people do it for free, to benefit other peoples kids. Thats why its really hard to find volunteers/

This seems like a rumor, though I could see organizations splitting.

My kid is trying out for their fledgling travel organization team next week....

^^^

Above should say "fledgling travel SOFTBALL organization"

Their travel soccer 'program' if you can even call it that, is the only sport generating revenue.

Field space is not the issue. The issue is you have incompetent people who can't seem to do anything right.
None of the other big clubs in this area has issues with field space.

HAHA HAHA HA

Are you for real? Every rec org has issues getting enough field space. There is not enough field space to go around.

+ 1 million.

And it's Fairfax County NCS that is incompetant about this. The sports orgs ask, and then NCS does an absolute head scratcher of actually distributing space. Including giving way too much to adult sports despite claiming youth sports get priority.

We are with Arlington and we have NEVER had issues with our field space.

We have a friend at SYC who constantly complain about practices getting moved last min.
