Which of the Batman movies is your favorite and why? |
1989 Batman
Good cast |
I am a huge Batman fan, and this is a tough question!
I love the one with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson - have such fond memories of it (I must have been 9 or 10 when that came out). Super Tim Burton-y, so more campy than the ones that came next (Penguin notwithstanding). I have a soft spot for the Val Kilmer one too, mostly because I liked the Villians (Jim Carrey as the Riddler and Tommy Lee as 2 Face). But my real faves are definitely the Christian Bale ones - that first was so good. Dark, but also compelling take on the backstory. |
Danny Elfman score is pretty iconic, the Bale movies were great and just real/gritty enough without going all DCU bleak — but it’s music was a bit lame. |
"The Dark Knight" is the only decent one, all because of Heath Ledger's version of the Joker was the most nihilistic and realistic. An ex soldier gone mercenary and cracked due to what he saw and had to do, and became black pilled at the absurdity of the world.
His joker is considered perhaps the greatest movie villain ever, along with Anton Chigurh, but were either of them really villains? They both had a very strict moral code, just ahead of the curve. Burton's "Batman" was ok for the time period, but meant as a children's version of course, though to be fair the entire Batman genre is childish. "The Dark Knight Rises" had a good premise and plot, but the whole League of Shadows was just done in a childish way rather than more realistically, with all the silly ninja hand-to-hand garbage. |
Agree that it’s Dark Knight and not even close! |
Jim Carrey is reason didn't like that one. Sorry know there are lotta fans of his out there. -not a fan of his, PP. |
The 1989 one but I do love Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. |
Yes. Wonder where is she these days? |
I like the 90s animated version but that is almost certainly nostalgia. |

He was funny for about 10 min there at one time in the late 90s. |
