I am 44 and my hair is getting thinner and lifeless. I was contemplating getting hair extensions.
Anyone do this and how much and what are the options available? |
curious what you find. I would worry it would make your hair thinner evevntually |
Yes, wouldn't it pull on your fragile hair? I'm 45 and have noticed my hair getting thinner and more sparse. I've an appointment for thyroid bloodwork, take multivitamins, and try to not damage my hair or put any weight on it, like heavy clasps or elastics that are too tight. |
I thought about this too but they're so damaging. I use a shampoo called Better Not Younger that helps a lot and I try to take decent care of my hair. I don't use a hair specific vitamin but I have seen many out there. |
There are really great options now for human hair clip in extensions that look totally natural (I have both had extensions installed and used clip-ins). You take the clip ins out to sleep and can even give your hair a rest for a few days if you don’t have anything going on. You can install them in different places to achieve different styles and so they are not always stressing the same areas of your scalp. Two brands I can recommend are Bellami and Luxy. Watch some YouTube videos on installation and blending techniques. |
Extensions will creat traction alopecia on already thinning hair and hair that is damaged/weak/brittle, which is normal for most women your age. You should look into a halo topper, a regular topper or a wig. |
I debated this too and got the Luxy clip ins. It took a bit of practice, but now I can get them in and out really quickly/easily and it looks like my regular hair, just thicker (I bought the shortest length which I think is 12”).
The damage to existing hair and maintenance/price steered me in this direction. My niece pays $700 for extension and spends 4+ hours in the chair every 3 months. No thanks. |
Invest in a high-quality wig. |
Be really careful with the natural hair extension and know the sources. Many brand import them from western China, which means the hair likely came from concentration camp victims. |
It's not your age. You're lacking essential vitamins. Like why the heck would you think it was your age??? LOL |
