I think this was discussed but looks like Howerton 2.0 is beefing with her ex and his girlfriend. After she threw all that shade to Kristen about being unhappy, she went on a podcast to drag the girlfriend and promoted it on her instagram. There’s also a whole reddit thread about it. I have never felt worse for Kristen Howerton…

Her recent caption on IG that she has never had this many eyes on her book before and this many readers or this much positive attention. That everyone is clamoring for their corner of this thing. That all of these opinions and hot takes are coming and she is rising above it all and she is elevated and is no longer under the war of codependency. But I would argue that writing this book, at least this soon, is codependent in itself.

The marketing for this has been a bit strange and the language and fawning over the top. It shows an immaturity and stuntedness and a certain level of dishonesty - especially in comparison to and in light of what’s going on in the world at the moment.

I don't think either of them will ever view themselves as average. They both give off major "I'm not like other girls" vibes and I think part of their marital problems stemmed from his discomfort at living in her shadow or his perception as such. She is riding high on this wave of top-tier publicity and really why wouldn't she be? I'm sure she finds it very affirming so if OP is expecting her to have some sort of humbling realization that she's a mere mortal, I don't think so.

Brando may be trying to move on with his life outside the public eye and from the little bit I've seen, he seems happy. At least happier than he did with her. Although he wasn't as overtly showy as her, he always struck me as being a try hard wanna be famous kind of guy. While having strangers harrass his wife can't be at all pleasant, I'm sure on some level he is reveling in the attention. He and Jen are cut from the same cloth.

I am listening to Awake on audio book and am reporting back.

Her intro made me like her again. It was part forward that is probably in the book and a message just for audible listeners. It felt warm and genuine. There was also a LOT of disclaimer language that this was the story she remembers and other people may remember it differently and some blah blah about her changing the dates around to protect people's privacy.

The actual book so far seems disjointed and jumps around a lot. I can't tell yet what knits these vignettes from her life together and what should make sense about the order. It's not riveting but I'm not bored with it yet.

I will say that purity culture has really done a number on her mentally and she seems to hold a lot of anger toward that. I grew up in a purity culture church and it didn't impact me quite so traumatically. My parents were like "Yeah, yeah, wear the shirt over your bathing suit at Bible camp and we don't care if you wear a bikini at the neighborhood pool" but this is really stamped on Jen's psyche pretty hard. I think this might be common trope for deconstruction influencers but she's very vehement about how terible it was.

After the first couple of chapters, I have noticed a tone shift where she seems to be very caustic and angry when it doesn't gel with the story she is telling. I picture her clenching her jaw and seething inside - she sounds livid.

What I've heard so far seems pretty average and not so different than my own upbringing or that of the average kid who grew up in a conservative-ish home but it is obvious that little moments from her past where things didn't work out like she wanted or someone didn't like her are anger inducing memories for her.

Oh Jen definitely thinks very very highly of herself. Brandon never did and was tortured under the charade.

Jen would be 100% content to live out a life of public adulation and fame. It's what feeds her. She lives for it. That's what makes her shallow and simple. There's not poetry or depth to her. Sure, it's marketable in a way and she can move some units but it's ultimately meaningless piffle. She's like a mid level K Pop star that had a few minor hits in the oughts. She's not Tina Turner. She doesn't have it in her.

This is a brief glorious moment for Jen. Her publisher and publicist went the extra mile to make this newest book a success. She's the queen bee for the moment and she beams in the glow. But it's a short-lived victory. In two week the book will have tumbled off the bestseller charts and privately her publisher will be disappointed. The attention and glow of the spotlight will be gone and the emptiness will gnaw at her. Like it always does. But if anything she's a grinder and she'll be moving towards her next project. Whatever that will be. Probably a second cook book. There's not a lot of quit in Jen. For that, she'll always have my respect.

Ordinarily I’d feel bad snarking about wannabe influencers that have like one thousand followers but these people are off the wall nuts and seem to want any kind of attention, no matter how negative. Hatmakrr adjacent thread may be worth a try because there’s so much to discuss w the messy Howerton group w ties to glennon.

Whatever happened to Craig? Is he dating anyone? Would love an update on that
