Can I ask for a commitment two weeks after sabbatical ends?

Without putting this person’s business out there through too many details, they are on sabbatical. It is supposed to end around the time that in the past, I have had them as a panel participant. Is it inconsiderate to ask for that commitment so soon?

What? If they are back from sabbatical and are working again, then ask them. Or, ask them but note that if if it’s too soon after their return, they should feel free to let you know.

Not back yet. The event would be two work weeks after their scheduled return.

I wasn’t sure if it would be inconsiderate to ask.
