I’m sure this is going to sound ridiculous, but I randomly thought of this and now I have to ask.
I grocery shop on Mondays. Next Wednesday we leave for family vacation. Every week by Monday we are desperate for perishable things like milk, fruit, veggies. At the same time, there’s no way I will use up anything I buy on Monday if we leave Wednesday, and it feels almost wasteful to buy things just for two days only to have to throw most of it away. How do you work this? Do you just improvise and make do with what you have, even if that means eating a lot of packaged snack food instead of fruit/veggies-type things? Or would you do a small shop for just those two days? We are flying and can’t bring anything, just to be clear. |
This is satire, right?
Milk comes in a variety of sizes. |
I would buy smaller amounts. |
+1 And there are a variety of hardy fruits and veggies that can last weeks especially when refrigerated (apples, clementine, carrots, celery, etc). Most dairy products have a long shelf life too. We scale back a wee bit prior to a vacation, but there are lots of options that don't spoil if you don't finish it all by the time you leave. In fact, I sometimes buy things the day before we leave so we have food in the refrig the day we come home. |
I would do a small shop. And for things like milk, just buy the one that comes with 2 cups of milk so there won't be much waste. |
Buy less… |
I can't believe I just read this. WOW. |
How do you function every day? This has to be the dumbest question I've ever seen posted here. |
Buy smaller milk. Are you leaving for months? If not your milk will most likely be fine when you get back.
And yes, you are ridiculous for posting this. Adults can figure this out without crowdsourcing |
Also, be flexible. Even if your kids have cereal and milk every morning. Once you’re out of milk; throw some frozen waffles in the toaster instead. Out of fresh fruit? Serve them cups of applesauce from the pantry. Nobody will die of scurvy or brittle bones without milk and fresh fruit for a few days 😉 |
This can't be a real post. How are you raising children if you have to post something like this? |
+1 only in America can people like this still afford vacations and travel. Amazing country and economy, truly. |
Thanks, everyone. I feel like a total idiot. 🤦🏻♀️ |
Maybe it's a sign to work on your rigidity. It seems you're so stuck in your routine that you couldn't even figure out a simple deviation from the plan. |
Go Sunday so you are not so desperate this week. And purchase slightly half your normal purchases. |
