AP scores for Ivy admission

Anonymous
My child got 4 in AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP US History. Does 4 hurt in Ivy admission? He got A- in AP Physics C M&EM and A in AP US History. Do the colleges value grade more or AP score more and should we send these scores?

If almost all As/5s otherwise, not a big deal. Unless desired major is engineering.

My white, unhooked child was admitted to an Ivy for engineering this cycle with 4's on both physics C exams.

The majority of ivy applicants are perfect. Even so, there's too many perfect and qualified students to all gain entry. So many waitlisted or reject are more than qualified but it's just a numbers game at the end of the day.

So make a wise and realistic list OP.

Your kid is mostly competing against other similar students in his high school. So if a similar applicant got a 5, yes that would "hurt." But that said--AP Physics C is a tough AP--I would have respect for a student who got a 4--whether the competition is stronger is not something anyone can tell you for certain, without knowing the high school, and the other applying students.

This is 100% incorrect.

From what kind of school and state? Rural? Underperforming school? Underrepresented state. I’m sure not from a STEM magnet school.

DS just got a 4 in AP World and a 3 in CompSci...I thought what is submitted on college app is AP Scholar with distinction etc. or do colleges want the actual break down of 4s, 5s, etc.
