Have all the incoming PreK-3 parents finalized their school choice for the 2025–2026 school year?
Where is everyone planning to send their child? Has anyone received any information from their school yet, or do most schools wait until August to send details? |
Most schools send little, if any, communication until Aspen rolls over in August. If your school has an email list or What's App group (or equivalent), you might see things from a PTA/PTO. |
Whittier sent an email last week with all upcoming dates for the summer including:
-Saturday morning playdates -Parent/principal meeting -virtual orientation for PK -date class rosters will be sent out -Back to School Night |
So I’m assuming DCPS & DC charter schools do things differently because I haven’t received anything about this upcoming school year. |
It varies from school to school even within DCPS. Some don’t send information until later in the summer. I think most don’t send out class rosters at all. |
To my understanding Whittier is very early with their communication. Rosters are sent out end of July. |
Are schools required to send out rosters, or is at their discretion? |
To clarify Whittier just sends individual families who their teachers are, not the full class list. |
Okay, got it. I had assumed the rosters included the class list to help students get to know their classmates and for parents to connect with one another. |
Most schools tell you what class your kid is in, it is up to you to find fellow classmates (we do this through neighborhood dist lists/Facebook groups) |
I think some school PTOs do sell family directories. As someone else else said once school starts it's a lot of WhatsApp groups set up by parents in my experience. |
Takoma sends classroom assignments this Friday - no class rosters but they're also posted at the school so you can see if particular friends are in your kid's class. |
