Buying dorm bedding

Anonymous
Oldest going off to college. Looking for best mattress topper & bedding. Any experienced moms with recs appreciated! With the mattress topper, my main concern is for odor/chemicals as DD is very sensitive to smells. She was hoping to have it delivered straight to dorm room, but many she showed me say they have to air out? Is their a "organic" version that does not need airing out? Also she hoping to get a mattress cover that can zip around the mattress and mattress cover. She found some sheets she liked on Amazon in TwinXL but will these be deep enough with a topper? Looking for any recs of specific brands, websites, etc. Thank you!

the sheets will be deep enough.

my kid never had a mattress topper and was fine. I dont think you need to pre-buy if you dont want. if you had to air out, you can do that by opening up the window for a day

Can't you use wha6 she's currently using at home? Just pack that.
Life hack: vacuum seal it in one of those vacuum-seal/space saver bags for easy transport).

Saatva makes great toppers. No chemical smells

Do not look for “best.” Get whatever is cheapest on Amazon or Target. It is going to end up in the trash my next yr

Thank you for the recs so far. As to Pp's ?: Her bed at home is a full so she cannot use those sheets. She does not have a mattress topper at home as she has a decent mattress. At orientation, she stayed in the dorm and the mattress was not comfortable at all - thin/plastic. The orientation leaders apparently recommended a mattress topper, but DD did not ask for specifics.

Get a full size comforter. Your kid can use it to cover their storage drawers if they raise the bed half-way. Maybe even a queen size will work better. No need to buy that bed skirt to hide the their stuff.

Sleep on latex is what we used. No offgassing. Has a cover that is washable. Has lasted 5 years so far.

We took a 5-layer approach to DD's crappy dorm mattress. I honestly don't remember which mattress pad we used where.

Base level - crappy twin xl mattress.
Waterproof zippered mattress encasement directly on the mattress.: https://a.co/d/6tkQwu5
mattress topper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CT3KP6Z3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
mattress pad: https://a.co/d/aiDhe3d
fitted sheet

It seemed to work well and the mattress topper was totally fine after one year of dorm living. It's in the storage unit for next year.

Macy’s has great deals rn especially on those zippered covers. If she’s going to UMD, wait until the dorm assignment bc some dorms are twin, others twin xl.

Not every kid throws these out.

A comfy bed is a really nice thing to provide. Good rest key at the beginning

We got the Sleepyhead w/washable cover (expensive & available on Amazon). No off gas and otherwise great.

well that's ridiculous unless you have to sleep on an XL twin mattresses at home? Even then, what would kid sleep on when home on break when all the bedding is at college?
