Portugal, Ireland or Spain

Which of the above do you recommend for teenagers’ first trip to Europe in August?

For August I'd say Ireland only because southern Europe is likely to be very hot then, and the beaches will be packed.

Absolutely not Spain in August.

I think Spain is probably most interesting but the heat is an issue. Ireland will be cool but is less “exotic” since they speak English. My kids loved Spain but we went in June. They liked the dramatic parts of Ireland but it was a trip with more car time and sitting in devices in the backseat.

Portugal. Stay in Cascais as fun beach town but has a train that goes quickly to Lisbon or close enough Uber and can do city do. Also can visit Sintra near by.

It is not that crazy hot in Portugal by the water in August

I've done all 3 multiple times with varying ages of kids.

Ireland is a lot of car time and nature sites/castle ruins and pubs.

I've done Spain in Aug and it's really not that bad in my opinion. The olympic pool in Barcelona is only open to the public in August and it is absolutely stunning.

Portugal is easy to train to various cities which all have slightly different vibes so makes it feel like you are really experiencing more than place even if in the same country,

Portugal, but avoid the popular beaches... or Spain, but do the north.

For a teen? Definitely Spain!

Ireland. Others will be extremely hot

Maybe Galicia in northern Spain. Do they like hiking and seafood?

Portugal! My teens loved Lisbon and the towns in the Algarve. Beaches weren't as crowded as those on the west coast. We didn't like Cascais but Sintra was a must. Spain is beautiful but agree to the heat and lack of A/C. Honestly if they've never been to Europe, Italy or Paris might be best intro. But have fun!

Agree with most of the above about Spain or Portugal. Ireland, will definitively be a lot of car time, which can also be stressful! The roads are narrow, you drive on the left and some of the local drivers are aggressive! I wasn't a fan! Having my kids along would have been worse.

Agree Spain is hot in August. But I highly recommend northern Spain which is not that hot in August. Great surfing beaches too. And incredible food.

The Atlantic Coast of Spain would be ok. San Sebastian, Bilbao etc would be great. Madrid and southern Spain will be baking. Portugal could also be pretty hot. Ireland is great but the food is worse, driving is challenging, and it’s more culturally similar.

Spain sucks.
