Robitussin for better mucus

Anonymous
Planning to try taking Robitussin this cycle to see if it helps improve my cervical mucus. I read that I need the kind with guaifenesin as the only active ingredient, and it's recommended that I take it several times a day leading up to O. Anyone know if that's going to make me drowsy or unable to drive? I haven't looked at cvs yet to read the bottle, but I'm trying to figure out if I can take that all day long at work and then drive home.... Has it actually helped anyone?

I thought it helped. I don't remember drowsiness being a side effect.

OP here. Also just looked at the Mucinex I have in the cabinet - it's 600 mg of guaifenesin, so maybe I'll just try taking that? I don't recall if it made me drowsy last time, but hell, it's already after 9pm.

When do you start taking it?

It didn't help me at all. Good luck. Hope it works for you.

Just google it - some sited say to start earlier than others.

I took it for the 4 days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation, at the recommended dosage (2 tsp?), 2x/day, straight guaifensin with no other ingredients, generic/CVS brand.

I got pregnant the cycle I took it! Now 30 weeks along.

Interestingly, this was the first cycle I ever tried it, and my 14th cycle TTC overall, after 2 chemical pregnancies and 3 failed medicated IUI cycles. I was taking a break from the meds and probably going to start IVF on my next cycle. And, I don't think there was anything wrong with my CM in the first place. I do have EWCM around ovulation, and I have gotten pregnant successfully in the past, but I wanted to see if I could give things a little extra help and it seemed like a pretty simple thing to try. I also drank grapefruit juice daily for about the week leading up to ovulation, as that is also supposed to improve CM.

I have no idea if the robitussin is what did it, but it certainly didn't hurt. It's cheap and easy, so to me, it was worth a try.
